LaToya Jane (@latoyajanee) – “I Want To Be Free”

Female singer, rapper, film-maker, LaToya Jane released her new video for track I Want To Be Free, off of her newest EP Grown.

The 5-track EP is produced entirely by Sound Smith Productions (YNot, Kool Aid), Dizzy (Ignorant Music) and J Das.

“I Want To Be Free” is about LaToya’s journey from her tough past, growing up in a rough area of Toronto, into the grown woman that she is today. The song is an anthem to encourage women to embrace their inner-selves, as LaToya says “I want women to be free to do whatever they want to do.”

The video features esteemed choreographer Raddy Rich (Nicki Minaj and Sean Kingston’s ‘Dutty Love’), Jadea Kotera the Dancehall Queen PH 2017 and highly respected dancehall dancer Chinny Unique.

LaToya has created and performed music since the age of 3. Grown is an example of her potential star power. Being gifted with significant artistic attributes, it took LaToya time to identify what skill she would hone. During a stint in a women’s prison she began to write her own music, where correctional officers would pay her to sing. This experience motivated her to pursue her passion for music once she was released. Grown is a story of her transformation.

In 2014, LaToya won the award for ‘Best Director’ at the Commffest Film Festival for Creature, a documentary about her time as a gang member in Toronto. The films impact helped LaToya become a prominent voice for at-risk youth. She worked as mentor for boys and girls throughout the city and served as a keynote speaker at various events within Ontario. She previously performed in Miami with Wu-Tang Clan legend, GZA.

Grown is a culmination of experiences that inspired LaToya’s evolution into womanhood. The 5-track EP is available now on all major streaming services.
