RoQy TyRaiD (@RoqyTyraid) – “Jim Kelly”

Phoenix, AZ-based rapper RoQy TyRaiD (pronounced Rocky Tirade) is excited to announce the release of a series of three brand new singles, just in time for the summer. Hoping to shake things up, RoQy aims to capitalize off the recent resurgence of lyricism and organic hip hop, with his unadulterated perspectives and creative prowess.
The first in the series is the 70s-esque video for the self-directed Jim Kelly,’ where RoQy battles kung-fu foes in the middle of downtown Phoenix. The combination of high level lyricism, hybrid lofi funk, and elements of blaxploitation, makes this hilariously dope visual a contender for video of the summer.

RoQy TyRaiD has been an integral part of the Phoenix music scene for over a decade, while concurrently finding his way through the greater national and international indie markets. Due to his career exploits, helping cultivate his scene, and countless exhibitions of microphone mastery, he is regarded among his scene as one of the best rappers in the southwest. His music is a shining example of the state of Arizona’s vibrant hip hop scene. TyRaiD earned his name in part by reputation for battling crowds mid-show in his formative years, and by recommendation of his family friend, the legendary Chino XL.

In 2016 The Dichotomy of RoQy TyRaiD was released on New York-based label Soulspazm Records. The alliance between both entities was forged by RoQy’s own DJ and producer Slopfunkdust. Singles such as “Hey You”, “Over The Horizon”, and “Crown Me” would all place in the top 3 on indie college radio charts for multiple weeks, with “Hey You” landing at #1.

RoQy first garnered media recognition in 2013 with both his mixtape The New Millennium Man, and his subsequent appearance on Sway & Tech’s The Wake Up Show Unplugged, which featured a collaboration with Anderson .Paak. The New Millennium Man is described as his artistic test of strength and his initial introduction to the indie world. This would also set the standard for RoQy continuously evolving to remaining apex over peer artists, throughout the years. The video “Woosah” gained enough momentum at the time to garner a shout out Tweet from 9th Wonder proclaiming him to be “next”. While he would embark on his years’-long journey alone, he was determined to bring prophecies laid by music idols to fruition, by any means.

RoQy has since been rated in annual top indie artist lists by ALLHIPHOP, Shade45, and has been lauded by online media outlets such Earmilk and DJ Booth, featured in publications such as Phoenix New Times. In 2016, RoQy was invited by Hip-HopDX to drop a ‘Hollywood Freestyle,’ which can be seen here.

RoQy TyRaiD has played festivals such as A3C, SXSW, all the way to France’s Dooinit Festival and Amsterdam’s De Rauwe School.
