Shan Vincent de Paul (@shanvdp) – Bitch Go

Shan Vincent de Paul, the acclaimed Toronto based rapper / songwriter and member of the influential Sideways collective (Coleman Hell, La+ch, Michah). shares his catchy and confrontational protest anthem “Bitch Go”. Shan’s 2016 solo debut album Saviors was met with critical acclaim by Complex, DJBOOTH, Okayplayer, Afro Punk, Clash Magazine and many others.

Born in Sri Lanka – Shan and his family fled the country due to civil war and arrived in Canada as refugees – his music forces listeners to ask themselves tough questions tied to fame, popular culture, identity, and humanity itself. “Bitch Go” is the first single from his sophomore album Trigger Happy Heartbreak.

At face value “Bitch Go” may appear like a crass song about ending a toxic relationship, but the true power of the song lies in its ability to serve as a protest anthem against the current American presidential regime that seems hell bent on wreaking havoc on the global political ecosystem. Says Shan:

“It was a song that was slowly brewing up in me while I was in the middle of shedding a whole bunch of negative bullshit in my personal life.  All the while it felt like the world was burning outside as Trump was just coming into power. The song was written out of sheer frustration. It’s my anthem for change, within myself and the world around me. But no more being polite and cordial about it, sometimes you have to call the bullshit for what it is.  Bitch Go.”

“SVDP is a perfect example as to how cultural influences, no matter where they

originate from, can mix and mingle to create an unique take on style and sound”

– Okayplayer

““every so often something truly catches not just your ear, but your whole being.

You have to  know  more, hear more, and that was my reaction when I first listened

to Sri-Lankan born, Toronto-based artist Shan Vincent de Paul”  –

-DJBOOTH

“Shan Vincent de Paul is about as forward thinking as hip-hop can get”

– Indie Shuffle
