A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg Dead at 45, Hip Hop Community in mourning

The hip hop community was in mourning after finding out that Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor) member of A Tribe Called Quest passed away on Tuesday, March 22. Phife Dawg was diagnosed with diabetes in the early 90s and for the last two decades he’s had diabetes complications. His cause of death has been reported to be diabetes related. Phife Dawg’s death is a heavy hit to the heart for family, friends, and fans around the world.

Statik Selektah posted on Twitter what many news media outlets reported as the first confirmation of the news. “Confirmed. rest in peace Phife. Man. I’m out.”  –Statik Selektah

Fans were in shock as the news circulated on social media. “Sending out a serious Rest in Peace to a real cool brother and a Hip-Hop Legend. Phife Dawg from a Tribe Called Quest. My life will never be the same. 5000.” –Jay Fernandez from Boston, Mass.

The hashtag #RIPPhifeDawg is trending as condolences and Phife’s  lyrics have been quoted on a large number of posts by fans.
