(Review) Kilindu – O Que O Futuro

Kilindu

I just got a chance to listen to the new track by Kilindu entitled, “O que o Futuro”. I have to say I like it a lot. Having this song on repeat for a while has created a really peaceful atmosphere around the house. Now that might be because of the lead singer’s smoky but confident voice and his easygoing guitar accompaniment. I could lay this chill factor at the feet of the percussionist and drummer working well off one another to mix a reliable rhythm with a complex and highly mobile hand drum accent. My own musical history makes me want to give all the credit to the brass section and the credible jazz fluidity it offers the song. But in the end my theory is that the reason this song is so great to listen to right now has got something to do with the advent of the first official days of summer.

I’m not really much of a summer EDM-lounge partier (that’s more of my wake-up soundtrack). I am also not the kind of guy to celebrate the warmer months indoors with some classical opera playing and Chianti to sip on (save that for Christmas time folks!). Nope. Summer is surely here. For me, that means I can comfortably chill with old friends and new at my favorite coffee shops and shoot the breeze with some good music playing in the background. My friends, when I imagine the kind of sound I would love to hear on just such an occasion, this is it.

Let’s set the scene. “O que o Futuro” jams along at a walking tempo that can lull you into a peaceful repose if not for the horn and nylon guitar involved that perk you up even as the conversation stays mellow. The vibration of the drums overpower the feel of the light breeze blowing but not the beautiful cacophony of jingling metal and espresso cups being restacked. It all has the potential to blend together well somehow. Something about Portuguese being sung, in my opinion at least, seems to celebrate that power and this song achieves the desired effect. All I’m saying is Kilindu got into the studio and laid down a track that’s going to really enhance my relaxation prospects this summer. “O que o futuro” indeed.
