(Review) ysimonis – Regular N*gg#

“Regular N*gg#” by ysimonis is defiantly well titled. From the first track “Pussay” to the last track “Slippin” you journey through the mind of a charismatic, money motivated, humorous, sushi loving “Regular N*gg#”. He slow flows threw out the album with deliberate intent so the listener catches every line. Each song is filled with braggadocios lyrics showcasing his ambition, comedic antidotes, shooting down naysayers (figuratively) & sometimes literally if need be. The project is comprised of bouncy trap style production coupled with catchy hooks that will have you singing along if you want to or not. Overall he gives off the vibe of a cool “Regular N*gg#” from the hood with aspirations of making it big.

The album starts off with a very melodious guitar playing with no drums in the background. Then you hear “Hi my name is ysimonis and I’m a pussyholic. Thank you”, the beat drops and you can almost picture girl’s twerking all over the place. The next few songs don’t stray from the same formula flirtatious beats and memorable choruses that encourage women to get loose and “Flash Dem Titties” as one song tittle recommends. ysimonis doesn’t approach these high-energy tracks with matching liveliness though. He slow flows these instrumentals with a style that reminds me of some sort of Gucci Mane, Shock G hybrid flow. After listening to the first half of the album I started to think to myself “where is this dude from?!” While the case to where ysimonis is from is still a mystery to me I do know one thing for certain. He LOVES the ladies. But not as much as he loves sushi.

My favorite track on this album by far is “True-N-False”. I found myself bursting into random laughter just as much as I was nodding my head to the music. Before I listened to this track I wasn’t sure if i could take ysimonis seriously, honestly. The Internet is home to thousands of trolling rappers but this track let me know that his comedy was clever and deliberate. The first verse on “True-N-False” is comprised of ysimionis delivering one-liners followed by the statement “that’s true”. Lines like “I hate doing the dishes” and “Wendy Williams is ugly” had me literally lol’ling. Second verse same formula but the adlibs change to “that’s false” where he proclaims to have “dunked on “Scottie Pippen” and “he hates bitches”. With this banger he solidified in my mind that he is a talented song writer.

Overall ysimonis put out a good product. If you want let loose and have some fun with some tunes that are perfect for pre gaming before a night in the club or you’re ready to kick back with some friends and some girls and keep the party at home “Regular N*gg#” is what should be coming out of your speakers. “Regular N*gg#” was advertised as “Simplicity + Creativity” and it is exactly that. I’m looking forward to hearing more from this talented songwriter. Check him out!
